Instant feedback

Every hit, right on the notation

Plug in your e-kit via USB or switch on the microphone. The moment you hit, the note lights up: green on time, orange early or late, red when missed. An arrow shows which way you drifted.

  • Dynamics too: soft enough ghosts, strong enough accents
  • Score, average drift (ms) and session summary after every round
  • Latency calibration: accurate even with Bluetooth headphones
Practice screen: drum notation with notes coloured green, orange and red by timing

Wait mode

Learn a hard bar one note at a time

The app stops on the next note and waits until you hit the right drum. No tempo pressure — your hands and feet learn the order first, speed comes later.

  • Notes played together (kick + hi-hat) are waited for together
  • Wrong drum flashes red, the right one turns green
  • When you're ready, one click back to real tempo
Wait mode: the score pauses on the next note until you hit the right drum

Bored of the click? Play with a band

Drumless songs in each course's style: soul, funk, neo soul, hip-hop, jazz-funk, drum & bass, gospel, shuffle. The song follows your tempo without changing pitch and stays locked to the etude.

  • Learn slow, speed up with the same song
  • Voice counting in 10 languages: "1 e & a", triplets "1 & a"
  • Fills and crashes to end each phrase
Your own etudes

Click, hear, save

Write your own groove by clicking a grid — the notation appears instantly, listen and save. 16ths or triplets, 1–4 bars, the whole kit from hi-hat to floor tom.

  • Saved etudes are practised and rated like any other
  • Teachers assign their own etudes as homework
  • Ghosts, accents, open hi-hat, ride, hi-hat foot

The engineering behind the sound

Built to sound real

Groove Coach behaves like an instrument, not a game. Every sound and every millisecond was tuned for that.

Sounds recorded from a real kit

94 samples recorded from an acoustic kit. Every drum has several velocity layers and alternating takes, so the same note never plays back identically twice in a row — no machine-gun effect. Ghost notes really whisper, accents ring out, and the open hi-hat stops the moment the pedal closes.

94 samples · velocity layers · round-robin · hi-hat choke

An ear that listens through the mic

On an acoustic kit, your phone or laptop mic is enough. Real-time signal processing inside the browser listens across three frequency bands, catches sudden energy jumps within milliseconds and filters out room echo and background noise. Every stroke is measured for both timing and loudness: is the ghost really soft, is the accent strong enough?

AudioWorklet · 3-band filters · adaptive noise floor · audio never leaves your device

Millisecond-accurate timing

Every stroke is scheduled ahead on the sound card's own clock, so the moving cursor and the lit note match the moment the sound reaches your ears. Bluetooth and speaker delay are compensated, and your e-kit's latency is calibrated with one button.

Audio-clock scheduling · latency compensation · calibration

Songs composed for every course

Soul, funk, neo soul, hip hop, drum & bass, shuffle… 16 play-along tracks were composed with AI, then a neural network removed the drum track — you are the drummer. Change the tempo and the song speeds up or slows down without changing pitch, staying locked to the beat.

16 tracks · drumless mix · pitch-preserving tempo · drift correction

Counting in a natural voice

The "one e and a" count is voiced in 9 languages with neural speech models. It runs on the same clock as the metronome, so sixteenths and triplets land exactly in place.

Frequently asked

Do I need an electronic kit?

No. With an acoustic kit the microphone rates timing and dynamics, and you can use the notation, counting and play-along without any kit. The most detailed feedback (including which drum you hit) comes from a USB e-kit.

Which e-kits work?

Any kit with USB MIDI: EFNOTE, Roland, Alesis, Yamaha, Simmons… Plug it in using Chrome or Edge and the app finds it. Map unusual pads with "Learn pads" in a few hits.

How does the free trial work?

For 14 days after sign-up you get the first 3 etudes of every level and all the tools; no card needed and nothing is charged automatically. Choose a plan to unlock the full curriculum.

Do I pay for my students?

No. The teacher plan covers free accounts for up to 30 students; they don't pay anything. Music schools: get in touch.

Where are my recordings stored?

Only you and your teacher can see assignment recordings; they're deleted after 90 days. The mic only runs when you switch it on and rating never records audio. Download your data or delete your account anytime.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, in one click. You keep access until the end of the paid period, and in the EU you can get a full refund within 14 days of your first payment.
